Jan Rumi: Biographical Information
M Jan Rumi, serving as
the Honorary Consul of Morocco, State of Hawaii strives to connect
Moroccan government and businesses (with an emphasis to the travel
and tourism related businesses) with Hawaii-based businesses and
government leaders. He also wishes to use Hawaii as a gateway to
connect Morocco with the continental USA as well as to the Pacific
basin countries.
Prior to taking the
Honorary Consul role formally, Mr Rumi served in management
positions for a large State of Hawaii agency as well as private
organizations in Hawaii. He served as the senior manager and
practice leader of Grant Thornton’s (www.grantthornton.com)
business advisory services practice in Honolulu. He also
served as the head of the Minority Business Development Center while
serving at Grant Thornton LLP.
He has over 25 years of
diverse business advisory, management consulting and industry
experience focusing on project management, quality assurance,
information technology and operational improvement services.
He has a seasoned, diversified international background in
consulting and business.
He currently co-owns
and serves as the president of a management consulting business and
a social services business in Hawaii. Mr Rumi is married and
has two grown sons.
Education
Bachelor of Arts (AB) from Berea College, Kentucky, USA; Master
of Science (MS) from Purdue University, Indiana, USA, in computer
sciences with a minor in business.
Professional and
Trade Organization Affiliations
Mr Rumi is a current member of the Hawaii Society of CPAs.
He served as an active member of the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of
Commerce and Hawaii Chamber of Commerce. He is the ex-chair
for the Membership Committee of the Information Systems Audit and
Control Association (ISACA), Honolulu chapter. He also served
as treasurer of the Hawaii Corporate End User Support Group and
chairperson of the Hawaii Society of CPAs’ (HSCPA) Management
Consulting Services Committee.
As the immediate past
Business Advisory Services (BAS) practice leader of the Grant
Thornton, Honolulu office, Jan is closely networked with all major
Hawaii professional and business organizations. In addition,
he has worked closely with local government agencies and is a member
of “Who’s Who” of American Professionals.
Civic and Community
Related Experience
Jan is intensely involved with a multitude of civic, community
and non-governmental organizations. He currently serves as the
zone chair of the Hawaii Lion Clubs and director of Lions Club of
Honolulu

He is the co-author of Wising Up – A Youth Guide to Good Living.
